Things to Do 4-5 Weeks Before a Long Distance Move
Relocating can be very difficult. But if you break down your tasks into bite size chunks, then your move will proceed much more smoothly and even become stress free. In this report I will be discussing things you must do 4-5 weeks before the date of yoiur move.
This is a good time to make your address changes. Contact the Post Office for the Change of Address form to inform them of your move. Give your new address to:
1. Friends and family
2. Banks, insurance companies, and other institutions
3. Credit card companies
4. Doctors, dentists and other service providers
5. Any clubs or associations memberships.
6. Local government agencies, Federal agencies and IRS.
7. Magazine and newspaper subscription.
Organize your move by deciding and making lists of what items you will not transport, what items your movers will move and what items you will move yourself.
Make a decision on who will do most of the packing or all the packing. Most long distance movers have professional packers who pack household possessions for a living. This is obviously a more expensive option but offset the price against how much your time is worth and what level of stress you can tolerate! Movers usually can offer you a full pack or a partial pack.
If you will do most packing or all the packing be sure to request a packing guide from your mover. The book talks about handling unusual and delicate moving situations. Start preparing those items not used often for your move.
A fun make to make the move easier and also less stressful for your children is to get them involved in the move and the packing. Let them help you make a layout plan for their new room. This will make the move fun and exciting at the same time.

Three Weeks Before a Long Distance Move
You can make your long distance move easier to handle by cutting it up into smaller tasks, which can be accomplished one at a time. You should begin your move preparations 8 weeks ahead of the move. In this short report I will be describing things you can do, at three weeks, to make the move go smoothly.
By now you should have picked a relocation company to aid you in making the move. You should be sure to keep the lines of communication open. If you are required to change the date, or if you possess large or unusual items which you have to move, such as a statue, be sure the moving company knows about them.
This is the time when you need to make decisions about moving your car. If you want to ship your car, you should talk with your movers. With their years of experience in the moving profession they can recommend a trusty car moving company. You can even transport your car in the same truck with all your possessions. However, the charge for this will be more than you would pay a vehicle moving company. Nevertheless, if your car is very valuable, or has great sentimental meaning, you might consider this option.
By three weeks pre-move you should also be making arrangements for transporting your pet. And don't forget to take your pet to the vet and make sure he is up on all his inoculations including rabies shots. Askyour veterinarian for the proper certification papers as well as up to date rabies shots .Some states will require this documentation.
It is also wise at three weeks before the move to locate all the valuables you will be transporting yourself. These include jewelry, valuable stamps and coins, valuable legal documents, stock certificates and the like. Make sure they are all accounted for now, so you will be able to collect them easily on moving day.
Finally be certain that books you have borrowed from the library are returned. And collect items that are being repaired or cleaned.
